Our Memorial Weekend

This was a pretty darn successful weekend for us...
We started out Friday night with a concert at 12th and Porter; Gary Burr (aaamazing songwriter), Lori McKenna (also great) and the band KingBilly who know how to put on a really good show! Their slogan is "I Knew KingBilly Before They Got Famous." Pretty funny! Anyway...Saturday we woke up super early to head to the lake where our buddy Richie and some of his friends rented a "party boat" for the day. We had 2 speed boats, too, so some people attempted to wake board. The weather and water was great! We had Richie and Kenneth's famous rum punch recipe, tons of food, and beer! It was super fun...

However, Eric and I jumped off the top of the boat together, and he twisted weird and hurt his neck...so, when we got home, he was pretty much out of commission. I was already committed to going to a show that night to see James House, with Terry Radigan and Alex Call. Terry was great, and Alex was the dude who wrote "867-5309!" It was such a fun show...I got to chat with James and his lovely wife Sharon at the end of the night. They recommended a vocal coach, and will be in touch to put me in the books to co-write with James...(who by the way wrote the Grammy Nominated Song of the Year, "Broken Wing" by Martina McBride.)

The BBQ on Sunday at our house was GREAT even though it rained...we ate...lots. Played games, including Apples to Apples, Scattergories, and Cornhole...and ate some more. Monday, the BBQ at our friends house was cancelled because it randomly poured so we hung out together and had a great day at home! I heart those days. Then, we went back to work...aka - singing and playing the drums...and wedding planning - always fun! :)

HOPE Y'ALL HAD A GREAT WEEKEND, TOO!

My family had an annual golf tournament in Cali in honor of my AMAZING Grandpa who passed, John O. Jenkins. I wish I could have been there. Anyway...this is what my Mom wrote in my Grandpa's alum newsletter, so you can learn more, too!

"John O. Jenkins began teaching in the Long Beach Unified School District at Poly High School, but transferred to Millikan when it opened. He taught art and stage design and assisted with the golf team there until his retirement in 1981. (He also taught some Art History classes at Long Beach City College in the evenings.) His love of golf, art and art history coupled with his quick wit and sense of humor continued until his passing in 2001. He is survived by his wife, Eloise Jenkins (who taught elementary school in the Long Beach School District), his 3 children who all attended Millikan--Judy Jenkins Onulduran (Class of 1963), John Jenkins, (Class of 1967), and Gwynne Jenkins Anderson (Class of 1968), and many grand and great grandchildren. I miss my Grandpa. He was a brilliant, hilarious, wonderful man. The world is truly missing an amazing man...but heaven is so lucky.
